As you can probably tell by the new look of Tablet Habit, I have transitioned back to a newsletter. Before I go into why, let’s talk about what this newsletter will be. Each week you will get two emails from me. Both of which will be all about the iPad (hardware, software, accessories, etc), productivity, Apple, and Silicon Valley.
- Long-Form Article - Every Monday morning I will send an original piece regarding one or more of the topics mentioned above. They will vary in subject from a custom Shortcut walk-through like my Writing Mode Shortcut to more traditional columns and analysis like my piece about Why I'm Done with Clubhouse. This isn’t going to be without feedback though, I want people to actually reply to my newsletters with your thoughts, criticisms, and ideas if you have any. I love reading emails from people regarding my work and having discussions about it.
- Curation - Every Thursday morning you will get a number of links to articles, videos, columns, editorials, and newsletters that I think are fantastic additions to the conversations I have on Tablet Habit. From things about the iPad, productivity, Apple, and Silicon Valley I will share them and my thoughts on the links as well.
The first issue comes out Monday February 22nd, 2021 at 8 a.m. Eastern.
I wanted to put this little FAQ together because I know that some of you who have read my stuff over the years might have a few questions. I did my best thinking of what you might have asked and then answered them for you. That said, if you have any other questions feel free to let me know on Twitter (or DM me @iamJeffPerry).
Why a Newsletter instead of a blog?
When it comes to blogging vs Newsletter I wanted to find a balance like that of Ben Thompson where you can read his newsletter both on his website and via email. Ghost was something I thought could allow me to do this. I always wanted to try the blogging platform and so far it has been an truly pleasant experience (more on that in a later post).
As for why have a newsletter? I love the idea of it. Instead of throwing things out in the internet void hoping that people with read it, a newsletter is directly sending my writing to those that want to read it. It seems much more satisfying to hit publish knowing it goes directly to people automatically instead of hoping that people come to my website and read it.
Didn’t you do this before over on Substack?
I did, but here it is better. Read why here.
I was a subscriber on Substack before, do I still need to sign up?
I plan to send an email to all Substack subscribers and letting them know of the plan, but after that you will need to sign up for the new newsletter.
Is it free?
It is completely free to sign up and read Tablet Habit. There are no current plans to make Tablet Habit a paid newsletter. If that changes subscribers will be the first to know.
Can I share this newsletter with others?
Sure, but please encourage them to sign up for the newsletter, because I will start posting things only email subscribers will get (meaning it will not be on the blog or RSS feeds).
Will you use my email information for anything other than Tablet Habit?
No, I never will share your email information with anyone, nor will I use it for anything other than sending you emails related to Tablet Habit.
What about RSS?
The Tablet Habit RSS feed works fine, but I plan to be sending things to email subscribers only, and they will not show up in the RSS feed. So if you don’t want to miss out on the exclusives only newsletter subscribers get I would subscribe now.
Are you just going to flake out of this again?
No, I have put in too much time and money this time around to allow myself to move the site over to something else or cancel the newsletter. I am in this for the long haul. For better or for worse.
